The Book Club: Chapter VI

“So then she just left?  Why in the fuck did Carter have to come last night of all nights in the world?” Toni asked through the phone in a hushed but urgent voice.  She was at work.
I was lying down in my queen sized bed filling one of my best friends in about the previous night’s events with Erin.  I guess if it were anyone else I would have been too embarrassed to discuss it.  I liked to consider myself a pretty private person.  This was different though.  This was my support system.  Between Ebony, Toni, and even Jazz’s inconsistent self, I needed them to confide in when moment’s like these arose.  They didn’t come often, but when they did, boy were they a blessing.
“I mean, yes Toni.  She sat there, waiting for me to explain for a minute.  I tried to tell her I didn’t know the damn camera was on.  I guess it didn’t sound too convincing since my conversation with you was recorded.  She saw and heard it for herself.” I started to explain.
“Wait, wait, wait! What do you mean, you didn’t know it was on?  You said you were going to record it when we were on the phone in the first place!” she started.  The lawyer in her was coming out.
“Well, yes.  I did tell you I was going to record it.  That doesn’t mean I was actually going to do that shit.” I confessed.
“Well why in the hell did you tell me you were?! What was the point in that?  Your case isn’t making sense Christian!” she exclaimed.
“You’re a lawyer.  I’ve known you for a while now Toni.  You’re one of my best friends.  I think it’s safe to say I know you.  I know that sometimes, you won’t shut up until you hear what you want to hear.  So, that’s what I did.   I told you what you wanted to hear.  It didn’t hurt that I was a little tipsy and you sounded good on the phone.  It was easy to do in the moment.” I said with a giggle.
Toni and I had never hooked up or even talked about it before.  However, she was quite the flirt, as was I.  Every now and then, our paths would cross be it in person, video chat, or on the phone and things would get a little heated, to say the least.  I think it was her aggression.  Maybe it was her confidence.  I don’t know.   There was something about the display of passion in her flirting.  Sometimes she made me feel like I was the first and only woman she had ever seen.  I don’t think I could ever tell her all of that though.  I don’t think it went that deep for Toni.  She just liked the challenge and the attention.  She was a well-respected lawyer.  It was typical Toni for you.  It didn’t hurt that she was fine.
“Oh, the nerve of you people! Don’t try to play on my profession.  I can’t believe you.  So, if you had no intentions of even recording, how in the hell did the camera get turned on?  You’re still not making sense.  I know children who lie better than you Christian.” She said.  Touché.
“I swear I didn’t turn it on.  Wait; don’t turn this shit around on me like that!  Don’t you have clients in your office?” I asked remembering her whispering through the receiver.
“No.  I get paid for the case over all.  This isn’t by the hour.  They’re in the lobby anyway.  I’ve been going over this with them for the past two hours.  We needed a break.  Don’t try to change the subject though! How in the hell did the camera turn on if you didn’t turn it on yourself?” she asked again.  This was going to be harder than I thought it was.
“You don’t remember when I moved into my pad?  You, the lawyer, suggested I get some extra protection, just in case.  Despite the fact that there’s surveillance in the building, you didn’t think that was enough.  You were the one who suggested I get the damn camera in the first place.  You were the one who said that in the event that someone broke in to my home it would behoove me to have it recorded to use as evidence in the court of law. Yes, that was the typical lawyer mode coming out of you.  You know, I didn’t even question you when you said it.  I even paid for the camera that you suggested.” I pointed out.  I was getting irritated the more I thought about.
“Well, it wasn’t all in vain.  I mean, at least now we see that it really works.  Hell, I might even go buy one for myself.  You know my raggedy ass building doesn’t have a surveillance system.” She said with a sarcastically optimistic tone.
“First of all, your building isn’t raggedy.  You live in condo in a well off neighborhood.  Just because you don’t see any cameras doesn’t mean they aren’t there.  Besides, you’ve got a neighborhood watch crew full of stay at home moms.  Surveillance doesn’t really get better than that dear.” I shot back, matching the sarcastic half of her tone.
“Well actually I never asked if I had one, but I’m glad you love me enough to pay attention.” I could hear the smile on her face in her voice.  How could I stay irritated with her?  She really was trying to make light of the situation.
“So, wait.  The camera’s motion activated?” She asked, finally putting the pieces together.
“Yes.  So while you and I were on the phone, I was standing in the living room, where the camera is.  I didn’t know it was recording everything that was going on.  Then again, I guess that’s why I got it; so it wouldn’t be noticed.” I said filling in the details.
“Well, that makes sense now.  But how did---” she started.
            “Erin?” I chimed in.
“Yes, Erin, find out?  How exactly did she see it again?” she asked.
“I told you she knocked it over after watching Carter and Jose in the act.  I guess I scared her.” I confessed.
“Scared her how?  What do you have to do with her knocking over the camera?”
“Well, I was watching Carter and Jose too.” I said.
“Mhm.  I knew it! Scandalous!” She teased.
“Oh come off of it Toni.  Let’s not forget some of the things we’ve discussed in our club meetings.  You said yourself it was a bit of a turn on to watch other people in the act.  You never specified gender.” I reminded her.
“No need to remind me.  I know what I said.  I never really thought about it.  In the moment I was trying to get an invitation to watch you and---” she began.
“Don’t do that.  I told you, there’s nothing between Jazz and I.” I said.
            “I didn’t say Jazz.”
            “But you were going to.”
            “You wanted me to.”
“I told you there’s nothing between us.” I said again, this time hearing a bit of a crack in my voice.
“I’ve seen the way you two look at each other.  Don’t try to fool me.”
            “Honestly.  We’re just close.”
“Fine.  So be it.  Now, back to Erin.  What are you going to do?  Better yet, what about Carter and this key situation? You forgot, huh?” she inquired.
“Yes. I guess I did.  I’m so used to seeing him outside of the condo and he rarely comes over anymore.  You know he’s been really busy lately with some project, I guess I just got used to having the place to myself again.  It is my place, but for a while you know he’d been coming over every so often.” I said remembering just how much time Carter and I used to spend together.
“Guess you know better than to forget next time, if there’s a next time, huh?” she said jokingly.
Toni was right.  I’d grown so accustomed to the people in my life coming and going as they pleased, that when people stopped coming by, I felt like a bachelor.  Despite the fact that I was single and had been for some time now, it was different having my home all to myself these days.
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.  I hope she’s ok.  She really didn’t show too much emotion before she left.  Hell, she didn’t show too much emotion at any point other than initial nervousness in the beginning.   You think she’ll---”
“Christian, baby, relax. I love you. Clients are ready.  Gotta go!” she said right before hanging up.  Typical. Gone, just like that.
This was my ‘morning after’.  I couldn’t help but wonder what Erin was doing.  This definitely wasn’t about love or even heavy likeness.  We did just hook up for the sake of hooking up.  There was something bothering me though.  I didn’t want her to think she was recruited to being a part of some freak fest.  Granted I’ve got an inner beast. That doesn’t mean I was putting it on display for the world to see, at least not yet.
As I laid on my California queen sized bed in nothing but a pair of lavender lace boy shorts and a wife beater, I couldn’t help but recap the night’s events with the soreness in my groin.  It was a good soreness to say the least.  I found myself massaging the insides of my thighs initially.  With each rub, I thought of each stroke.  With each stroke, I remembered each moan.  Motherfucker.  She felt so good.  My hips began to wind in smaller circles that grew wider, and wider, and wider.  Before I knew it I was pushing my ass deep into the softness of the mattress picturing how Erin had me propped up on the bathroom counter.  My palms were sweating. My breathing was irregular.  My fingers were digging.  My phone was ringing.  I snapped out of my pre orgasmic state and answered breathing heavily.
“Hello?” I said, anticipating the voice on the other end of the line.  I didn’t bother to look at the caller i.d.
“So, I guess it was urgent last night huh?” came Jazz’s voice on the other end.
“Shit.” I mumbled into the receiver.  Leave it to Toni to run her mouth.
“What’s wrong?  Didn’t think I’d find out?  It’s fair game in the club.” She said.
She was right.  We had all agreed for the sake of learning from each other’s experiences we wouldn’t keep any of our sexual escapades a secret.  I guess I just wasn’t ready to share with them yet.  I should’ve known that Toni would run her mouth.  Then again, I guess there was a part of me that wanted her to, to keep me from having to do it.
“Whatever girl.  I’m not tripping.  If anything, just a little embarrassed.  My first sexual venture in the club, and look what happens.” I said shyly.
“It happens to the best of us.  Don’t worry about it.” She said comfortingly.
“I guess so.  Anyway, what are you getting into today?” I asked trying to change he subject.
“You. I mean, I’m coming over.  Thought you could use a pick me up.” She said to my surprise,  correcting herself.
“WHAT?!” Not now I thought to myself.  I was too vulnerable.  If Jazz’s fine ass came over right now, I know I would let her teach me every lesson there was to fucking superbly. I covered my eyes with my hand, in disbelief and instantly smelled my juices on my fingers.
“I started to call sooner, but figured you’d give me a hard time.  Toni told me you didn’t sound like you’d be going anywhere for a long time anyway.  Unlock the door.  I just parked.” She demanded.
Great.  Just great. No sooner had we gotten off of the phone did I go straight to the bathroom and brush my teeth, wash my face, and lotion up.  I didn’t necessarily have intentions on doing anything with Jazz, despite my attraction.  I did, however, want to look damn delectable.  She really wasn’t kidding when she said she was parking.  As soon as I stepped out of the bathroom, I walked to the living room to open the door.  Before I could move my hand from the doorknob, Jazz was turning it.  I stood there like a deer in headlights looking her over, taking in all of her deliciousness.
“Hey Beautiful.” She said kissing me on the spot between my ear lobe and jawbone.  I felt my back immediately tense up.  We always greeted each other with a kiss on the cheek, but something was different.  She wanted me.  I could feel a throbbing in my loins.  That feeling lasted mere seconds before it was replaced by anxiety.  Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Erin’s strap on hanging off the closest doorknob to the left of the front door.  Carter must have put it there this morning before he left.  Shit.
